Our full selection of Melton wool fabrics
What’s the difference?
Pendleton Eco-Wise Wool – This special fabric has been Cradle to Cradle Certified by MBDC. It’s responsibly manufactured to leave as light a carbon footprint as possible, and at the end of its life, can be safely added back to earth as a nutrient. Its smooth texture is lighter than Melton, with more drape. Our customers like it for upholstery and outerwear.
Melton Wool – Melton is a durable, element-resistant woven wool fabric with thicker, substantial fibers and a soft, brushed surface. It has a heavier hand than Eco-Wise Wool. Because of its texture, Melton wool has minimal fraying. Super warm and water-resistant, it is a weatherproof choice for outerwear. Our customers also use it for upholstery.
Melton and Pendleton Eco-Wise Wool are both 100% wool, and the width varies from 54-56 inches wide. Eco-Wise is our recommendation for upholstery.

Our customers are wonderful, and they really seem to understand what sets Pendleton fabrics apart. We love it when you visit us! And if you love Pendleton, consider a trip to our Washougal Pendleton Store and Mill. If you’re visiting on a weekday, you can take a tour of our Washougal Mill to see what goes into the production of our wool textiles. Washougal is just across the bridge from Portland. In fact, it sits on the banks of the beautiful Columbia River. One reason to visit? You can see the new mural on the north wall of the Pendleton Woolen Mills building.
The design incorporates Pendleton’s park and camp stripes into a landscape of the Columbia Gorge, and includes the river’s landmarks. Sharp-eyed viewers have identified Cape Horn, Beacon Rock, Mount Hood and the Columbia River. This is a perfect place for a selfie or two. Tag us with @pendletonwm or #Pendleton because we would love to see your smiles against this colorful backdrop.
Artist Travis London
The mural had its official unveiling and dedication last fall. Travis London, a Vancouver School District art teacher who grew up in Washougal, has painted quite a few public murals there. His next project will be a mural on the Inter-Faith Treasure House building. The mural, artist, and event were featured in the East Oregonian.
According to the article, Travis first approached the company in 2012. “It means a lot,” he said. “I grew up in Washougal, and I’ve been here basically my whole life. That building is one of the town’s (most significant cultural) landmarks. Leaving my mark and creating something that the com-munity can appreciate makes me feel really good. That’s the whole point of doing public art — trying to connect with the community and hopefully make something that they enjoy.” Pendleton gifted artist Travis London with a blanket to thank him for his vision and persistence.

Friday, 4/28 was an exciting day for us at Pendleton.
That’s right, we were able to change the numbers on our Washougal Mill Store sign, having reached an exciting donation milestone of over 1.5 million dollars!!
Through sales of the National Park Collection–the blankets, mugs, apparel and other park stripe items you see in the retail merchandise part of our store–we are part of Pendleton’s company-wide support of the National Park Foundation, the nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preserving America’s more than 400 national parks.
This partnership is thriving!
Our Projects
Pendleton’s partnership has supported two landmark park preservation projects. Our first was in Glacier National Park, at the beautiful Many Glacier Hotel. Restoration of the historic lobby included rebuilding the iconic helical staircase, which had been displaced by a gift shop.
Our second project is restoration and preservation of the historic Grand Canyon Train Depot in Grand Canyon National Park. The historic wooden station is a landmark, the place where generations have met to go explore the wonders of the Grand Canyon. Its restoration is currently ongoing, with a special focus on enhancing the accessibility so all guests can enjoy the train.
We’re excited to announce a new project. We will be contributing to the development and support of the Desert View Inter-Tribal Cultural Heritage Site at Grand Canyon National Park. This includes the Desert View Watchtower, designed by architect Mary Colter.
“The national parks have been an important part of Pendleton’s heritage from the very early days,” said Pendleton CEO John Bishop. “Our National Parks Collection dates back to 1916. It is an honor to be able to continue to partner with the National Park Foundation to help support the inspiring work they do across our treasured national parks.”
We couldn’t do it without you. Thank you all for your support.
